New: Lending Library 

Thanks to a generous donation from a parent (and SEPAC member), the district now has a lending library of Socials Skills resource materials that anyone in the NRSD community may borrow. These books and games can be checked out directly from the Florence Sawyer School library or requested for checkout at any of the district school libraries.   Read More....

Create your own glitter jar! 
Deep breathing exercises:
Create blowing activity for little ones:
Make a blowing tube...  use the inner tube from toilet paper roll or kitchen paper roll and tape thin strips of tissue or cellophane paper on one end and have child blow from other end to make the papers dance when they blow through the tube!

-Create and Decorate your own gratitude journal or write out what you are grateful for on strips of paper and staple them into rings like banners for a more festive expression.
-Set a positive Intention for the week.

- Create a set of positive affirmations or mantras and have your child read the affirmations daily while looking into a mirror. (Pinterest has great lists of affirmations)

Review some A to Zs of COPING STRATEGIES with your child or create your own lists to print an put up: (Here are some ideas):
A:  ASK for help;  Work on an ART project
B:  BREATHE deeply; BALANCE on one foot
C: COUNT forward or backward for CALMING; CRAFT a project
D: DRINK cold water or an herbal tea; DOODLE; DO NO HARM
E:  EXERCISE
F: FIND a safe/quiet place
G: GO to your happy place in your mind; GO NOODLE video
H: HUG a family member
I: INSIST on being good to yourself especially when you don’t feel like it
J: JOKES - find some jokes that will make you laugh
K: KEEP yourself safe - Think KIND thoughts
L: LISTEN to calming music; LIST all of your amazing qualities
M: MEDITATE
N: NAME the emotion you are feeling
O: OBSERVE nature
P: PAINT a picture or write your own POEM
Q: QUESTION your thoughts
R: go for a RUN
S: SEPARATE yourself from the situation for a bit; SEE the situation from other point of view
T: TURN negative THOUGHTS to positive
U: USE your skills
V: VOICE your concerns
W: WRITE about your feelings or a story to get you into a different headspace
X: EXHALE
Y: do YOGA or YELL into a pillow (in appropriate place)
Z: ZONE out (Relax)
