Superintendent Update
Dear Nashoba Regional Community,
Memorial Day provides us the opportunity to pay tribute to all those service men and women who have sacrificed their lives on behalf of our nation. So many have given of themselves for our freedom. We remember their service with humility and gratitude.
Within our greater Nashoba community, individuals will join together on Monday to engage in local ceremonies and parades, demonstrating our collective gratitude and respect for those who have dedicated themselves to serving our country. These longstanding traditions in our community serve as poignant reminders of our interconnected history and the common bonds that unite us all.
As we honor the contributions of our servicemen and women this Memorial Day weekend, I also hope that the extra day the weekend brings will find you enjoying time with extended family, friends, neighbors, and, most importantly, with one another. Enjoy the long weekend and the warm weather upon us.
Peace,
Kirk Downing

NRHS French Students Visit Florence Sawyer School
This week, the students of Nashoba Regional High School showcased their creativity, artistic talents, and language skills to the third and fourth graders at Florence Sawyer School. As part of their French 3 and French 4AP classes, the high school students crafted captivating children's books in French, complete with their own illustrations. They not only wrote these stories but also had the wonderful opportunity to read them aloud to the younger students, who were completely engaged and filled with curiosity.
We extend a heartfelt "Merci mille fois" (thanks a million) to our high school students and to Madame Hermans, our dedicated French teacher at NRHS, for organizing this extraordinary learning experience for our Sawyer students.
Nashoba Receives Grant Funding to Support Middle School Applied Science Curriculum
The Luther Burbank Middle School and Nashoba Regional School District have been awarded a grant from the One8 Foundation through the OpenSciEd Equitable Instruction (OEI) Initiative at Boston College in the amount of $23,700.00. This grant funding will support the implementation of OpenSciEd, a middle school applied science curriculum using phenomenon-based instruction aligned to Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
The OpenSciEd curriculum engages students as scientists with hands-on, relevant, inquiry-based lessons. Implementation of OpenSciEd will begin next year in all three of our middle schools. Grant funding will support professional development workshops for teachers and durable equipment costs. In addition to grant funding, members of the Massachusetts OpenSciEd program receive implementation support, priority access to in-state workshops, and additional professional learning resources and student programming through the OpenSciEd Equitable Instruction (OEI) Initiative based at the Lynch School at Boston College as well as Mass STEM Hub, a program of the One8 Foundation.
